Corsicans on the island, those overseas and friends of Corsica have been waiting several years for the creation of a Corsican satellite TV channel : “Via Stella”.

“ Via Stella” was due to start transmission on 21 June 2005, but screens have remained ‘black’.

WHY ?

- because for years ministerial promises (including those of Nicholas Sarkozy) have been unfulfilled
- because the Assemblée Territoriale de Corse (regional government) has dragged its feet
- because France Télévision continues to push back the schedule

...Corsica watches powerlessly as this station is being buried.

“ VIA STELLA IS A CHANNEL THAT CREATED HOPES:

- for better reception in Corsica
- for communication with the ‘diaspora’
- for the development of programmes in Corsican
- for job creation
- for contributing to Corsica’s economic development,
- for gaining new viewers in Europe and the Mediterranean.

If “Via Stella” is not launched before the end of 2005, or if it does so ‘limping’, it will be the end of this great project and a significant loss for Corsica and the Corsicans.
